  • Course Details

The Higher National Diploma (HND) in Photography is a two-year higher education course designed to develop you as a confident, skilled, and critically engaged photographic practitioner. Combining creative exploration with professional practice, the course prepares you for a career in the contemporary photography and creative industries or progression to university-level study.

You will work across analogue, digital, and hybrid photographic practices, developing both technical expertise and conceptual understanding. From traditional darkroom processes to industry-standard digital workflows, and the integration of both through hybrid approaches, the course reflects the evolving nature of photography today. Alongside this, you will engage with critical theory, contextual research, and professional development, enabling you to position your work within wider cultural and industry contexts.

The course is delivered through a combination of practical workshops, lectures, seminars, group critiques, and independent study, with some components delivered remotely to support flexible learning. Throughout your studies, you will produce a diverse portfolio of work, culminating in a final professional project and exhibition.

This course is part of the Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals framework, designed to develop practical, interpersonal, and higher-level thinking skills aligned to industry and higher education progression.
