Care Experienced Learners
Support for students, under 25 years old, who are care experienced or estranged from their parents.
At Wirral Met, we recognise not all our students have a strong family network supporting them. Some of our students may be in care or have experienced being in care; others may be estranged from parents and living semi/independently. Whatever your circumstances, Wirral Met is an inclusive college and will support you every step of the way.
Starting college is an exciting time but we also know it can be a time of high anxiety. If you haven't had chance to visit one of our open events or have felt a little too anxious, please get in touch with us and we can arrange for you to come and visit us and have a look around at the facilities.
what can you expect from us:
- A named person for you as a contact point. This will be either a Pastoral Coach or a Personal Tutor. This person will be your biggest supporter while you are here and will be the person who will challenge and push you to be the very best you can be. They will also have a listening ear and know how to make sure you get any help you need.
- We will provide financial support (subject to eligibility, please click here for more details)
- If you have any additional needs or disabilities, we have a large team of support staff who will make sure you have a support plan in place to help you, and your teachers work together to achieve your qualification. This may include, if you need it, someone to support you in the classroom. Please click here for more details
- We have an active Student Union who organise groups and activities that you can get involved in if you want to. You can also look to become a course rep and have your say about changes you would like to see in college. Please click here for more details.
Free Breakfast
We have free breakfast available every day, during term time, at all campuses. So, if you fancy some toast or granola and yoghurt, and a hot drink, get yourself in college that little bit earlier, have some breakfast, and set yourself up for your day of learning.
Breakfast is available 8am-9.30am.
