Creating futures since 1855.

We are incredibly proud of our rich history and heritage, serving the local community for nearly 170 years.

Our roots stem back to 1855, where we began life as Birkenhead Arts School. This marked the beginning of a long tradition of education and training in the Wirral region. Over the years, the college has evolved and expanded, adapting to meet the needs of the local community.

In 1982, Wirral Metropolitan College was formed, bringing together Carlett Park College, Birkenhead Technical College, and Wallasey College of Further Education, providing generations of Wirral residents with education, skills and knowledge.

Fast forward to today and we are the largest college on the Wirral, providing 5000 students a year with high quality, career led education. We hold fantastic relationships with our vast network of over 600 employer partners, as well as our partnerships with leading universities, delivering higher education programmes with University of Chester and University of Liverpool, as well as outstanding teacher training with Edge Hill University.

We serve the community across our five campuses in Birkenhead and Bebington, and we are committed to fostering academic excellence, and meeting our core values of ambition, resilience, inclusivity, empowerment, and accountability.
