This course is the first year of a 2 year programme and is designed to give you the skills you need to either progress to higher education or into employment. The range of careers that you can progress into include: Police, Fire Service, Security, Prison Service, Armed Services, Maritime and Coastguard Agency and UK Border Agency.

  • Course Details

    Areas of study will include:

    • Government, Policies and the Public Services
    • Leadership and Teamwork in the Public Services
    • Citizenship, Diversity and the Public Services
    • Understanding Discipline in the Uniformed Public Services
    • Physical Preparation, Health and Lifestyle for the Public Services
    • Volunteering in Public Services

    In addition you will gain Information Technology skills and will have the opportunity to make use of all the College I.T. facilities. An important part of the programme will be talks and demonstrations by visiting speakers from Public Services, and visits to various Public Service establishments.

  • Entry Guidelines

    • Level 3 courses are usually 2 years in length.
    • You will need 4 GCSE's at Grade 4 or above. One of the 4 GCSE's to be Maths or English at Grade 4 (or functional skill level 2) to study at this level.
    • If you have a level 2 qualification in the subject you want to study and a maths or English GCSE at Grade 4 (or functional skill level 2) you can study at this level.
    • Entry requirements for Level 3 courses in some sectors may be more specific. If you're unsure whether you meet these requirements, don't worry — we can help you find a suitable course that aligns with your skills and experience.

  • Where can I progress to?

    At the end of the course, you could progress to higher education or employment or continue onto a second year Extended Diploma. Most of the Public Services have their own entry tests, but the requirements for them will be considered during the course.

    To learn effectively on your course you will need to use certain items of equipment and undertake particular activities as part of your studies.  To further enhance your learning experience the following will be required:
