Globetrotting students from Wirral Met College experienced international travel and tourism work experience on a recent trip to Granada, Spain.

Twenty students studying on the Cabin Crew and Aviation Operations course were given the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience at Granada’s Aviation College.

The exciting timetable of events included learning about emergency procedures and landings, pool survival, self-defence and first aid. All of which are essential to start a career as a flight attendant. It wasn’t all hard work though as the students also got to explore Madrid’s landmarks.

This trip was made possible thanks to the College gaining Eramus+ funding for another year. Erasmus+ supports UK organisations and their students, staff and young people to connect, collaborate, grow and prosper through a range of international opportunities.

Each year, our Travel and Tourism department organise a variety of work placements within the Visitor Economy sector for students. This provides an excellent opportunity for our students to boost their employment prospects and enhance their UCAS applications, if they wish to progress on to university. With plenty of career choices in the UK and abroad, the sky’s the limit when it comes to future options!  Past Travel and Tourism students have gone on to jobs with major airlines and airports or progressed to higher education.

Level 3 student Isabel Newhouse has just secured a work placement on British Airways Inflight Customer Experience programme at Heathrow Airport. Isabel will assist with tasks including welcoming customers to the terminal and helping them use the self-service machines/touchpoints and self-service bag drop. Other tasks include assisting in labelling baggage, ensuring travel documents are correct, boarding customers and welcoming premium customers to our airport lounges.
