Wirral Met College and Tomorrow’s Women Launch New Salon and IT Suite to Support Women’s Education and Development
Wirral Met College has proudly partnered with Tomorrow’s Women, a local charity dedicated to supporting women across the borough, to launch a new training salon, Empower Hair, and a fully equipped IT suite. The facilities officially opened on Friday 30th May.
Funded through Wirral Borough Council’s Towns Fund Project the Education Engagement Network Project, led by Wirral Met College, aims to address the attainment and skills gap between residents in the east and west of Wirral. By investing in accessible skills-based learning, the college and its partners are helping more women take their first steps into education and employment.
The new salon, Empower Hair, provides a welcoming, professional training space where women can enrol on a six-week short course in hairdressing. This hands-on course offers an introduction to the industry, while also acting as a progression route to Wirral Met’s Level 2 Adult Hairdressing course. Fully fitted with salon-standard equipment and nail technician kits, the space has been designed to provide a real-world salon experience.
Alongside the salon, a new IT suite has been installed and is now open for use. Also funded through the Education Engagement Network Project, the suite offers access to computers and digital learning resources, enabling women to develop essential IT skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.
In addition to its partnership with Tomorrow’s Women, Wirral Met College is also working closely with local organisations to enhance community facilities and build clear pathways into education. These include: Wirral Borough Council, Wirral Change, Forum Housing, Spider Project and MAKE CIC.By collaborating with these partners, Wirral Met College is expanding its outreach and supporting individuals who may face barriers to education. These joint efforts aim to provide practical training, confidence-building and qualifications that lead to employment or further study.
Whether returning to education after a break or considering a new career path, Wirral residents accessing these programmes are gaining the tools they need to move forward.
