This qualification aims to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to be able to plan, deliver and supervise safe and effective exercise programmes within a gym or health club environment.

Upon successful completion you will be a qualified Fitness instructor in gym based exercise and group exercise as well as being eligible for progression onto the level 3 Diploma in Personal Training.

    During the programme you will study:

    • Principles of anatomy, physiology and fitness.
    • Health and safety in the fitness environment.
    • Professionalism and customer care for fitness instructing.
    • Conducting client consultations to support positive behaviour change.
    • Planning and instructing gym-based exercise.
    • CIMSPA Endorsed Professional Standards
  • Entry Guidelines

    You must be 19 or over on or before 31st August to study on this course.

    Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above, one of these should be in English or Maths. 

    In some cases applicants may be able to demonstrate suitability for the course which is outside the standard entry criteria. Such applications can be considered on individual skills, experience and likelihood of a successful outcome.

    One day / evening per week.

  • Equipment Required

    All equipment required to meet the course specification will be provided by the college.

    Learners will need to ensure they come suitably dressed in active wear that would enable to work in both a gym setting as well as a classroom based setting.

  • Assessment Methods

    This course is assessed using a variety of methods including tutor-observations of practical activities, worksheets, presentations etc.

  • Can I study for free?

    You may be able to study for free if this course will help improve your employment prospects. You could be eligible if you are:

    • Employed and earning below: £35,864.40 (if you live in the Liverpool City Region; Wirral, Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens or Halton)
    • £25,750 (if you live outside the Liverpool City Region) Employed and receiving certain state benefits
    • Unemployed (with or without benefits)

    Asylum seekers can access free courses up to Level 2 if the course supports long-term employment.
