This course is equivalent to two GCSEs. It provides standard, nationally recognised evidence of study in all three Science subjects.

This course starts in September 2026 and prepares students to complete Pearson Edexcel GCSE Combined Science in May/June 2027.

There are six written exams. As well as units and exams in Physics, Biology and Chemistry, students will participate in regular mandatory practicals.

  • Course Details

    The GCSE in Combined Science enables students to develop:

    • the scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of Biology
    • Chemistry and Physics Understanding of the nature
    • the processes and methods of science, through different types of scientific enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
    • the knowledge of to apply observational, practical, modelling, enquiry and problem-solving skills in the laboratory, in the field and in other learning environments
    • the ability to evaluate claims based on science through critical analysis of the methodology, evidence and conclusions, both qualitatively and quantitatively

    The GCSE in Combined Science requires students to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding of working scientifically. Working scientifically will be assessed through examination and the completion of mandatory, regular practicals.

  • Entry Guidelines

    You must be 19 or over on or before 31st August to study on this course.

    To study this course, you will need: GCSE Grade 3 in all three Science subjects: Physics, Biology and Chemistry, or, Satisfactory performance on assessment at interview.

  • Where can I progress to?

    Courses at Level 3 (Access to HE) and beyond, such as Degrees, that require the Science GCSE.

    Obtaining the GCSE Combined Science does not guarantee entry into another course.

  • Timetable

    This course takes place one evening per week.

  • Assessment Methods

    Six externally examined papers in May/June 2027. Candidates must attend and attempt all papers.
