Upon completing this course, you will achieve the Ascentis Level 3 Certificate in Community Interpreting.

  • Course Details

    The course will cover 10 units:

    • Interpreting two ways, sight translation, Medical interpreting
    • Planning to work as a Community Interpreter within: Immigration services/Housing Services, Welfare Benefits System, UK Public Services and within an Education system

    The course will give students more knowledge of the practicalities of employment as an interpreter. Students will also have the opportunity to further practise and refine their interpreting skills. Students will practise in routine role play situations and also through sight translation.

  • Entry Guidelines

    You must be 19 or over on or before 31st August to study on this course.

    The course is open to applicants with very good knowledge of two languages and who have completed all below:

    • English Level 2 Functional Skills or equivalent
    • Have completed Ascentis Level 2 Certificate in Preparing for the Role of Community Interpreter or have professional experience as an interpreter.
    • C1 English Advanced level or equivalent
    • Satisfactory interview, assessment and/or satisfactory reference.
    • Must have excellent IT skills as part of the assessment will be on Microsoft Teams and all lessons plus assignments are set through Microsoft Teams.
  • Where can I progress to?

    Students can progress to:

    • Employment within local public services sector or the voluntary sector
    • Level 6 Diploma in Public Service Interpreting with accredited providers

Maha joined Wirral Met as an ESOL learner and has progressed steadily through her studies, completing Level 1 ESOL and Functional Skills English and Maths, and is now studying Level 2 Interpreting.

Maha’s dedication to learning and humanitarian work was recognised when she was awarded Exceptional Contribution to Humanitarian Causes by the King and Queen of England in November 2023.
