Photography students have recently taken part in an exciting live brief with Wirral Borough Council and their partner organisation, Visit Wirral. As part of the brief, students were tasked with photographing a curated list of Wirral landmarks, from historic buildings to coastal locations, producing a portfolio that reflects the local area and the talent of local students.

The article highlights the partnership, the importance of giving young people real-world creative opportunities, and the role our students have played in capturing “hidden gems” across Wirral.
Wirral Council will also be featuring a selection of the students’ final images on their website, complete with individual accreditation to help build students' portfolios and work experience.
This live brief gave the students an insight into the industry, including responding to a client brief, shooting on location, refining technical skills in real time, and delivering images that meet professional standards.
Level 3 student Lelaani Moreland reflects on the experience:
“The opportunities to go and take photographs live with the tutors allowed us access to places that we wouldn’t normally get to and the ability to ask technical questions in real time.”
Wirral Met College is proud to continue working with Wirral Council and Visit Wirral on projects that support local culture, community engagement and skills development. Collaborations like this not only offer meaningful work experience to our students but also help promote Wirral’s diverse and vibrant identity to a wider audience.
These hands-on opportunities are an essential part of our Photography curriculum, helping students build confidence, develop industry‑ready skills and gain real client experience.
