The course leads to an Ascentis Award in Understanding Community Interpreting Level 1

  • Course Details

    The qualification offers the opportunity to learn about the language skills required when working in the community — giving an awareness of how language changes depending on the situation. There is also an opportunity to look at how Public and Voluntary Service sectors work and their interaction with the community. Learners may wish to study the subject further if they have an interest in the topic or they may wish to use the qualification as a stepping stone to becoming a Community Interpreter.

  • Entry Guidelines

    You must be 19 or over on or before 31st August to study on this course.

    The course is open to applicants with very good knowledge of two languages e.g. ESOL level 1 or above, English advanced level or equivalent

    Must have strong IT skills as limited training can be given in the use of Teams for the course.

    Satisfactory interview, assessment and/or satisfactory reference.

  • Where can I progress to?

    Students can progress on to Ascentis Certificate in Preparing for the Community Interpreting Level 2.

  • Timetable

    Two evening classes a week - blended learning (including a face-to-face class inside a classroom, and one online class.)
