Award in Understanding Community Interpreting Level 1 (Adult)

The qualification offers the opportunity to learn about the language skills required when working in the community — giving an awareness of how language changes depending on the situation. There is also an opportunity to look at how Public and Voluntary Service sectors work and their interaction with the community. Learners may wish to study the subject further if they have an interest in the topic or they may wish to use the qualification as a stepping stone to becoming a Community Interpreter.

You may be able to study for free if this course will help improve your employment prospects. You could be eligible if you are:

• Employed and earning below:
• £37,144.00 (if you live in the Liverpool City Region; Wirral, Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens or Halton)
• £26,800 (if you live outside the Liverpool City Region)
• Employed and receiving certain state benefits
• Unemployed (with or without benefits)
• Asylum seekers can access free courses up to Level 2 if the course supports long-term employment.

You must be 19 or over on or before 31st August to study on this course.

The course is open to applicants who are confident in speaking, reading, and writing in English and another language. A good standard of English, demonstrated through ESOL qualifications, Advanced Level English, or equivalent experience, is required. All applications will be considered individually based on language skills, qualifications, and experience.

Satisfactory interview, assessment and/or satisfactory reference.

Students can progress on to Ascentis Certificate in Preparing for the Community Interpreting Level 2.

Two evening classes a week - blended learning (including a face-to-face class inside a classroom, and one online class.)
