The Level 3 AET course is an introductory course which prepares you to teach, tutor or train.

This course is designed for new or aspiring teachers or trainers. This course is extremely useful for those who are interested in developing a career in this area.

Assessment and feedback basics You will leave this course with a teacher/trainer 'toolkit' which will prepare you well for any next steps in the teaching/training sector.

  • Course Details

    This qualification comprises of the following units:

    • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
    • Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training
    • Understanding assessment in education and training
  • Entry Guidelines

    You must be 19 or over on or before 31st August to study on this course.

    The are no specific entry requirements, however it is recommended that you have a minimum of a level 3 qualification in your chosen teaching subject and ideally hold a level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (further guidance can be provided on enquiry) for progression.

    You are not required to have access to teaching hours for the Level 3 Education and Training course. You will be required to undertake an initial assessment of skills in English, Maths and ICT at the start of the programme.

    Places are subject to satisfactory interview and/or assessment.

    If English is not your first language, you may need an assessment before enrolling on this course. To discuss further, please contact the ESOL department on 0151 551 7144.

  • Where can I progress to?

    This course will give you key skills to begin your journey into teaching or training.

    You may be able to progress to further study at the college, including University Higher Diploma in Teaching or Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (PGDiT) to become a fully qualified teacher.

  • Timetable

    Timetable: Tuesday's 5:30pm-8:30pm

  • Assessment Methods

    Study will be through a combination of class attendance and self study.

    There will be a variety of written assessments and a microteach assessment is also required as part of the course.

    Live within the Liverpool City Region and:

    • Are studying for your 1st full Level 3 qualification
    • Earn under the Liverpool City Region median wage (£35,864.40 per/year)
    • Are unemployed and in receipt of a state benefit
