This practical, beginner-friendly course is designed for anyone looking to develop essential DIY skills for use in the home. Learners will gain hands-on experience and basic knowledge across a range of home DIY tasks, helping build confidence to complete simple projects safely and effectively.
The course covers key areas including surface preparation techniques such as cleaning, sanding, and filling, followed by painting and decorating skills, including brush and roller application and wallpapering. Learners will be introduced to basic plastering methods for small repairs and patchwork. The safe use of common power tools will be demonstrated, alongside guidance on selecting and installing appropriate wall fixings for different surfaces. The programme also includes an introduction to basic brickwork, as well as essential safety knowledge for safe isolation of electrical systems and an overview of simple plumbing tasks.
By the end of the course, learners will have developed practical DIY skills, improved awareness of health and safety, and the confidence to carry out basic home improvement projects.

Entry Guidelines
You must be 19 or over on or before 31st August to study on this course.
You do not need formal qualifications for this course but will be considered on your individual skills and experience. You must be able to follow instructions, be willing to work independently, produce answers in a clear and understandable form and organise information clearly.
