  • Course Details

    This course is for students who want to progress into a career in the Animal Nursing Assistants/Care sector, with a focus on knowledge, skills and behaviours specific to your future study and jobs You will have the opportunity to take part in practical activities to develop hands-on experience.

    Our expert tutors provide dedicated support throughout the course to help you succeed. Topics covered include:

    • Animal Anatomy and Physiology
    • Principles of animal nursing
    • Providing Nursing Treatments to animals
    • Principles of Infection Control
    • Animal Behaviour and Welfare
    • Maintain Animal Accommodation
    • Provide Nutrition to animals
    • Handling and restraint of animals
    • Companion animal pharmacology
  • Entry Guidelines

    • You will need 2 GCSE's Grade 4 or above in Science and English. In addition you will need 2 further GCSE's at Grade 3 or above.
    • If you have a beginner/Introductory qualification in the subject you want to study and a maths or English GCSE at Grade 3 (or Functional Skill level 1) you can study at this level.
    • Entry requirements for Level 2 courses in some sectors may be more specific. If you're unsure whether you meet these requirements, don't worry — we can help you find a suitable course that aligns with your skills and experience.

  • Where can I progress to?

    After completing this course, you can progress to higher-level study in veterinary nursing / animal management or related fields.

    Career opportunities include roles such as animal nursing assistant, veterinary nurse, animal care assistant, or veterinary support assistant.

    Assessment for this course includes a combination of practical demonstrations, written assignments, and external examinations. You will also complete work-based projects to apply your learning in real-world settings.
