Military Preparation Diploma L2 - K013

This course is designed to point you in the right direction to achieve quality employment in the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force or Royal Marines. You will improve your teamwork, developing confidence and people skills and also improve your fitness to a standard that will make you eligible for entry to the Armed Forces. You will improve your written and verbal communication skills which will help you meet the strict Armed Forces criteria for entry.

You will be expected to wear a uniform throughout the course and will be expected to maintain it to a high standard. You will also be expected to demonstrate a military attitude in college and in all the work you do, including achieving high standards of attendance and punctuality. You will be expected to take up the opportunity to undertake work experience and/or residential experiences (up to 5 days) across all four services while you are on the course. You will be tutored by ex-military personnel who have a wide range of experience, and who will expect a lot of you.

Entry Guidelines

Priority will be given to those aged 16-18 years old who have a keen interest in joining one of the armed services.

Relevant Level 1 qualification or minimum 3 GCSEs at grade 3/D or above.

Satisfactory interview, assessment and school report or reference.

Equipment Required

You will need to purchase and maintain a college specified uniform. This will be discussed at interview.

Additional Information

You will be required to contribute financially to some of the cost of trips, visits and residentials, although these will be kept as low as possible. A college bursary may be available to help with these costs. More information will be given at interview.
Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C (grade 4 or above) in English and maths
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips
Where can I progress to?

At the end of the course, you could progress to employment in any of the uniformed public services. Please note, however, that all uniformed public services have their own application and selection procedures. If you are aged 16-18:

This study programme will be FREE for most students who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, or students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.

If you are aged 19 or over:

Fee : £795.00

This course is FREE if you are aged 19+ and are unemployed/in receipt of eligible benefits, or in work earning less than £18,135 annual gross salary.
