The aim of this qualification is to prepare students to work with children between birth and five years with knowledge of children up to seven years or to progress onto the T Level in Education and Childcare or the CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce.

Course Details

Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner Level 2 has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people's development, supporting children and young people's positive behaviour and communication and professional relationships.

It's aimed at learners working in roles that support pupils' learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.

Entry Guidelines

This is a Study Programme and applicants must be 16 or 17 years of age when applying (on or before 31st August)*. This is Government Guidelines.

Relevant Level 1 qualification or a minimum of 4 GCSEs including English Language Grade 3/D and 3 GCSEs at Grade 3/D or above (including maths).

Applicants should be ready to complete a substantial Early Years (0-5yrs) work placement

Satisfactory DBS

Equipment Required

To learn effectively on your course you will need to use certain items of equipment and undertake particular activities as part of your studies.

To further enhance your learning experience the following will be required:

  • Uniform
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check Certificate

These come at an additional cost.

Assessment Method

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods.

This could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set by CACHE*.

Additional Information

Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C or Grade 4 or above in English and maths
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips
