Wirral Met College is supporting the recovery of the local hospitality sector with a new Traineeship Programme.

As restrictions lift across the nation in the coming weeks and months, those in the hospitality sector preparing for a much-needed bounce back can take advantage of support from Wirral Met College.

The College is keen to support restaurants, cafes, hotels and bars across the Liverpool City Region as they reopen their doors to the public. With no financial investment required from employers, a Traineeship Programme will allow participating businesses to increase their capacity and productivity whilst providing high quality work experience to young people.

Karen Christian, Assistant Principal of Professions and Visitor Economy at Wirral Met College said, “The flexibility of these programmes will provide employers with the opportunity to build a high quality recruitment pipeline whilst helping to tackle youth unemployment.”

Chancellor Rishi Sunak delivered the spring budget in early March, which included positive news for the programme. Employers providing at least 70 hours of work experience to a 16 to 24 year old as part of the Traineeship Programme can claim £1,000.00 in an incentive payment.

Paul Askew, President of the College’s Alumni Community and Chef Patron at The Art School has already signed up to take part in the programme, alongside Phil Mackenzie, Executive Chef at LEAF.

Phil said, “Traineeships give local young people the opportunity to get that first step on to the career ladder and we hope that the trainees will flourish with LEAF and become an integral part of our team.”

A key element of the programme is the outcome for the young people involved, ensuring they are equipped for an apprenticeship or full-time employment upon completion. Therefore, if businesses are interested in taking on an apprentice for the first time, this programme is a great way to get started.

Wirral Met College are encouraging local businesses to get involved with the programme by contacting their Employer Services team.
