If you are interested in a career in the beauty therapy industry then this is the course for you. You will spend most of your week in our Beauty Salons working on models and clients. There are also elements that require you to practice your skills at home.

Course Details

You will cover the following:

  • Facial Treatments
  • Manicure
  • Pedicure
  • Waxing
  • Eye Treatments
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Health and Safety
  • nail art
  • salon reception

Skills such as working with others, improving own performance and problem solving form part of the course and should help you gain employment.

During your course there will be opportunities for attending national shows and exhibitions where you can see some of the main wholesalers and manufacturers of equipment and products. Once a year we hold a college show and you will be expected to participate.

Entry Guidelines
  • This is a study programme for students that are 16-18 years.
  • Relevant level 1 qualification or minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade 3/D or above (GCSE maths, English and science are desirable).
  • You need the skills for fine work e.g. accurate use of an eyeliner pencil or nail varnish brush.
  • A genuine interest in Beauty Therapy and an ability to communicate 1:1 with clients.
  • You must be prepared to give and receive treatments to/from other students on your course.
  • Satisfactory interview, assessment and reference or school report.
  • If English is not your first language, you may need an assessment before enrolling on this course. To discuss further, please contact the ESOL department on 0151 551 7144.

Equipment Required

You will need to provide your own uniform, following the college uniform policy (approximatley £60 to include face masks). You will not purchase a kit to allow you to practice your skills at home (approximate cost £50).

Assessment Method

Assessments continue throughout the course both in practical and theory sessions. In addition there are 11 VTCT online exams.

Additional Information

An early application is recommended for this course.

Reading & writing skills - You will need to produce written assignments.

Maths skills - You will need to measure products and work within specific timings.

This profession and course requires you to be able to carry out physical work for long periods of time. Reasonable adjustments will be made to accommodate disabilities.


Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

    Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C (grade 4 or above) in English and maths
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, study skills, fund-raising/charity work, and/or trips

This profession and course requires you to be able to carry out physical work for long periods of time. Reasonable adjustments will be made to accommodate disabilities.

Where can I progress to?
  • Employment prospects include: working in a beauty salon or cosmetic companies as a representative
  • Further Education opportunities include progression onto level 3 Beauty Therapy.
