Photography students at Wirral Met have launched a showcase at the Oakland Gallery in New Brighton.
During the week commencing 11 March 2024, Wirral Met students immersed themselves in the dynamic environment of New Brighton, using their their photography skills to capture the essence of local businesses and community in the seaside town, whilst taking inspiration from the works of acclaimed photographers such as Tom Wood, Martin Parr, and Ken Grant.
Wirral Met students held a ‘takeover’ of the Oakland Gallery, inviting members of the local community in for free portraits and headshots, before displaying work created throughout the week at a showcase on Friday 15 March.
From 6pm, friends, family, photography enthusiasts and members of the local community poured into the Oakland Gallery to explore the wide range of work on display.
A total of 27, Level 2 and 3 photography students proudly exhibited their work which documented the nuances of everyday life within the vibrant seaside resort of New Brighton.
The evening was also accompanied by a selection of live performances from Wirral Met music students.
Throughout this academic year, Further Education photography students at Wirral Met College have been actively engaging in the THRIVE Study Programme, investigating into enriching areas such as Health and Wellbeing, Citizenship, Career Pathways, Sustainability and Personal Progression, with this exploration into the photographic and broader creative industries acting as a critical aspect of their study programme.
Work will continue to be displayed at the Oakland Gallery until the end of March.
