A student from Wirral Met College has scooped a prestigious award at the 2019 AoC Sport Awards.

Mattie Harding won the Achievement in Disability Sport Award for his impressive swimming success.

The awards are the chance for member colleges from across the country to showcase and celebrate the achievements and inspirational work of students and staff in college sport.

Nineteen year old Mattie is currently studying BTEC Sport and Exercise Science at Wirral Met’s Oval Campus and swims for Wirral Metro Swimming Club. He has had an impressive career so far, from grassroots to Team GB.

In 2017 he represented GB in Canada, swimming in 100 breaststroke, 100 free and 200 IM, winning three golds. In 2018, Mattie won a further three golds, a silver and bronze at Nationals and broke his own GB record for 50 breaststroke.

Mattie is the current GB record holder, number one in 50 breaststroke and number one in the country for 100 breaststroke.

Congratulations Mattie from everyone at Wirral Met!
