Application Form to be returned to Student Services

If you are returning to study after a break in your education, this course is designed to increase your knowledge and confidence. It will offer a progression route to an Access to Higher Education course or to other Level 3 courses.

Course details

The Pre-Access Science programme is based on the nationally recognised BTEC (First) Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science which is equivalent to 4 GCSEs (Grades A* - C). This Diploma provides a progression route to further study or employment. The BTEC (First) Level 2 Diploma is made up of 9 units i.e 3 mandatory core units and 6 optional units. The contents of these units includes Biology (mainly Human Biology), Chemistry and Physics. Core mandatory units.

  • Applications of Chemical Substances
  • Applications of Physical Sciences
  • Health Applications of Life Sciences
  • The Living Body
  • Science in Medicine

    At least one GCSEs at Grade A* - C (grade 4 or above) in English or maths.

    Applicants must be at least 19 years old when they commence study and must have an interest in Science. You should be considering taking an Access to HE course in the future.

    Assessment Method

    Assessment is through assignments.

    Additional Information

    In order to progress to Access to HE you will need GCSE A* - C in both English and mathematics.

    Where can I progress to?

    Progression to Access to Higher Education (Science) course, which is a level three course providing a recognised qualification for entry to University degree courses. The course will also provide improved job opportunities because of the enhancement of your GCSE-equivalent profile.
