This is a part-time day course. You will study basic womens' hairdressing.

Course details

The course will include the underpinning knowledge and skills to enable you to:

  • Shampoo
  • Condition
  • Cut
  • Set
  • Blow dry
  • Perm
  • Colour
  • Related skills and the required knowledge will also be studied including:

  • Reception studies
  • Client care
  • Team work
  • Creating a positive impression
  • During the course you will have the opportunity to attend National shows and exhibitions where you can see demonstrations by some of the countries leading Hairdressers.

Entry guidelines

A genuine interest in Hairdressing/Beauty Therapy and an ability to communicate 1:1 with clients.

Ability to complete fine work such as sectioning hair, plaiting and setting hair, applying eye liner.

Some applicants will be considered on their individual skills and experience.

Satisfactory interview, assessment and reference or school report as applicable.

Equipment Required

You will need to provide your own equipment and overalls following the College uniform code. The approximate cost is £180.

Assessment Method

Assessments continue throughout the course. Practical assessment are carried out and written assignments are completed. In addition there are VTCT End Tests.

Additional Information

An early application is recommended for this course due to its popularity.

Students may be able to fast track to level 2 after term 1, dependent on individual progress.

The hairdressing profession and this course requires you to be able to carry out physical work for long periods of time. Reasonable adjustments will be made to accommodate disabilities.

An ability to communicate one to one e.g. to a tutor or client and in a group as part of a discussion.

Reading and writing is essential to completing the project for this qualification. Technical language will be taught on the course.

Whilst high levels of numeracy are not required, you will need to be able to measure products and work within specific timings.
