This study programme has been developed by the SSC GoSkills following extensive employer consultation and research to address skills gaps and to provide practitioners within the Aviation Industry, operating in job roles with a high level of personal responsibility at supervisory levels, with the opportunity to demonstrate evidence of technical competency and the underpinning knowledge relating to their work activities.

Course Details

This course has been developed to give students the opportunity to:

  • Engage in learning that is relevant to them and that will provide opportunities to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for successful performance in working life
  • Progress to employment in a particular vocational sector or progress to related general and/or vocational qualifications.

The aviation industry has grown at a rapid pace. The last 10 years have seen a huge increase in the start up of new low-cost scheduled airlines, an increase in routes offered by network carriers and scheduled airlines, and the establishment of charter airlines which sell direct to the public.

Entry Guidelines
  • Priority will be given to those aged 16-18 years old.
  • A minimum of 4 GCSEs grades 9-4 / A* - C (including English Language and Mathematics) or equivalent Level 2 qualifications.
  • Satisfactory interview.
  • Satisfactory reference/school report.
Equipment Required

Students need to be prepared to purchase a uniform which is to be worn to agreed standards when in college and on college business, the approximate cost will be advised at interview. Students will require a large folder, calculator and a pencil case containing pens, pencils, ruler, coloured pencils and highlighters

Assessment Method

This is an assignment based course with elements of practical assessment throughout including projects, case studies and role plays.

Additional Information

There are optional residential visits abroad plus other industry visits to airports and training centres in the UK. Students must have a valid EU passport with a least 6 months before expiry. Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C (grade 4 or above) in English and maths
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

Where can I progress to?

At the end of the course, you could progress to higher education or employment. You will be assisted with applications for employment by tutors with current and up to date Airline Industry Experience.

If you are aged 16-18:

This study programme will be FREE for most students who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, or students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.

If you are aged 19 or over:

Fee : £4800.00

If you are aged 19+, you may be able to apply for a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan (which is available for this course).

Depending on your personal circumstances, this course could be FREE for you if you are aged 19-23 and you do not already have a level 3 qualification.
