This qualification aims to further learners' experiences and development in communication through British Sign Language (BSL) with Deaf people at an extended level. Level 6 will further develop functional BSL communication than earlier levels, requiring the ability to exchange, present and understand information, ideas, advice and opinions at a greater speed, and also build on awareness of cultural interaction with Deaf BSL users.
Accredited by IBSL, the course is divided into 3 units.
GCSE English Language grade 4/C or above or equivalent.
It is essential that entrants should have the Level 4 Certificate in BSL Studies with a pass mark of 75% before embarking on the Level 6 Certificate programme.
The qualification is also suitable for deaf people wishing to acquire a qualification in their own language, as part of a progression route towards Deaf Interpreter status.
To successfully complete a L6 programme candidates will need to practice their BSL skills outside of the course and therefore will need to demonstrate that they are engaging with the deaf community or using BSL regularly in their workplace.
Satisfactory interview and assessment.
The unit will be assessed by four methods of assessment each of which focusing on separate areas, requiring the learner to demonstrate competence in comprehension and productive skills in the use of BSL.
You should be able to demonstrate the ability to research and use ICT skills effectively in order to produce academic work.
The course is awaiting approval for the Advanced Learning Loan system.
