If you are returning to study after a break in your education, this course is designed to increase your knowledge and confidence. It will offer a progression route to an Access to Higher Education course or to other Level 3 courses.
The Pre-Access Science programme is based on the nationally recognised BTEC (First) Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science which is equivalent to 4 GCSEs (Grades A* - C or grade 4 or above). This Diploma provides a progression route to further study or employment. The BTEC (First) Level 2 Diploma is made up of 9 units i.e 3 mandatory core units and 6 optional units. The contents of these units includes Biology (mainly Human Biology), Chemistry and Physics.

You should be considering taking an Access to HE course in the future and will be expected to study English and/or Maths, alongside Pre Access, if you have not already achieved a grade 9-4 (A*-C).
3 GCSEs at grades 3/D or above (must be Science, Maths and English) or a relevant Level 1 qualification with maths and English at Grade 3/D or above.
Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and/or satisfactory reference.

In order to progress to Access to HE you will need GCSE A* - C (grade 4 or above) in both English and mathematics.
Progression to Access to Higher Education (Science) course, which is a level three course providing a recognised qualification for entry to University degree courses. The course will also provide improved job opportunities because of the enhancement of your GCSE-equivalent profile.
