This level 5 course is suitable for employees from science based industries and for those who wish to upgrade their HNC to HND and require flexible study. Those who undertook a 1 or 2 year HNC may do this course to top up to HND in 2 years.
The course is designed to increase knowledge and skills in the subject of chemistry. Following full completion of HNC in Applied Chemistry, students will have to undertake an additional core unit and seven optional modules.
(Please note that the number of additional units needed to convert an HNC to an HND depends on whether the HNC was the current 8 unit or previous specification, 10 unit qualification.)

Note that those who did HNC on the previous specification may need to upgrade a few of their existing units where unit specifications have changed significantly.
It is possible to import units from the applied biology course.
Students must meet the requirements of achieving a full HNC in Applied Chemistry to have the option to boost a HNC to a HND.

Students will be assessed on each unit through coursework and practical assignments. This course is assessed by assignments which contribute to a pass, merit or distinction grade for each unit. This qualification will have an overall grade of pass, merit or distinction.
For timetabled sessions, students will be based at the College's Twelve Quays Campus.

It can also lead to higher education studies such as BSc (Hons), which can be delivered at the College in partnership with UCLan. This award is accepted by the Royal Society of Chemistry as satisfying part of their requirement for eventual professional recognition.
