The Healthcare Science (HCS) associate workforce supports the work of the HCS Practitioners and Clinical Scientists in performinghigh quality, safe diagnostic, therapeutic and monitoring technical and scientif procedures fro concetion to end of life in job roles within hospitals, general practice and other settings in the healthcare sector. They perform a wide range of routine technical and scientific procedures with minimal supervision folloing specific protocols and in accordance health, safety governance and ethical requirements
The following topics are included within the apprenticeship â€¢ Professional Practice â€¢ Personal and Professional Development â€¢ Health, Safety and Security â€¢ Quality â€¢ Technical Scientific Services â€¢ Clinical Care â€¢ Audit/Service Improvement â€¢ Research and Innovation â€¢ Leadership
Apprentices must be in paid employment, usually 30 hours a week in a role that allows them to cover all aspects of the healthcare science apprenticeship
Level 2 English and maths Individual employers may identify other relevant entry requirements.

Appentices will gather evidence in a portfolio which will be evaluated by the employer and the college and assessed through a variety of methods including observation and discussions.
Achievement of the BTEC level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science is essential to pass through the gateway to the Synoptic End Point Assessment which comprises a Vocational Competence Observation, Professional Practice Test and Professional Discussion. Overall grading will be either Pass, Merit or Distinction.
