This course will equip you with the scientific skills and techniques you will need to progress in the science industry. This is an introductory qualification for people interested in science who would like to work their way up to the higher levels and get ready for a career in science.

Course Details

The course covers several mandatory units to develop your employability skills, such as Being Organised and Working with Others. The rest of the units you will study have a scientific basis and will involve developing practical and investigatory skills in science units, such as Carrying Out a Scientific Experiment and Making a Chemical Product. You will be assessed through practical activities and written tasks to achieve the qualification.

Entry Guidelines

Relevant Entry Level qualification or 3GCSEs at Grade 2/E or above.

Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and/or satisfactory reference

Equipment Required

You will require your own folder, paper, pens and pencils. All scientific equipment will be available for you to use in college.

Assessment Method

You will be assessed through assignment work and these will take different forms such as: practical experiements, reports, presentations and tests.

Additional Information

Are you aged 16-18? Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A*-C in english and maths (grade 4 and above)
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips.

If you are aged 16-18:

This study programme will be FREE for most students who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, or students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.

If you are aged 19 or over:

Fee : £3150.00
