Welcome to the Hospitality and Culinary Arts Professional programme at Wirral Met. This programme has been designed to give you the skills and knowledge to start your journey towards your dream career in the exciting Hospitality and Culinary Arts industry. Alongside developing your technical abilities, the programme will help you to get work ready by building on your confidence and interpersonal skills.

You will have the opportunity to try out a range of subject areas related to the Hospitality and Culinary Arts, allowing you to explore different career paths and discover your strengths before progressing onto a Level 2 qualification.

 

Course Details

The programme will help you to improve your Maths and English, develop technical skills, gain work experience and get involved in extra-curricular activities and tutorials. It has been designed to help you develop professionally and supports your progression. Alongside subject specific knowledge you'll have the opportunity to improve your Maths, English and Digital skills — essential for helping you get a job in the future.

These programmes are all about supporting your journey. You'll develop your study and communication skills, learn to manage your time effectively and conquer every challenge with confidence. Get a taste of the professional world with industry insights, guest speakers and work experience opportunities. We'll help you craft the perfect CV and prepare you for job interviews.


The subject specific knowledge you will cover includes:

  • Maintenance of a safe and hygienic working environment 
  • Working effectively as part of a team 
  • Maintaining food safety when storing, preparing and cooking food 
  • Preparing and cooking meat, fish and poultry 
  • Preparing and cooking vegetables 
  • Preparing and cooking pasta, rice, eggs and pulses 
  • Cooking and finishing simple bread and dough products
Entry Guidelines

This is a Study Programme for students aged 16-18 years.

If you are yet to gain any formal qualifications (e.g. GCSE's) you will be enrolled onto our Aspiring Professionals Programme which is perfect for progression to further study at level 2 or alternatively an apprenticeship route into employment.

Basic levels of literacy and numeracy are required for you to study at this level (grade 2 or below in English/Maths)

If English is not your first language, you may need an assessment before enrolling on this course. To discuss further, please contact the ESOL department on 0151 551 7144.

Equipment Required

This course will require additional equipment, which may incur additional costs. The following equipment is required:

  • Uniform (including shoes)

Assessment Method
This course is assessed through a combination of written work and practical assessments.
Additional Information

This is a study programme for those aged between 16-18. 

If you have not achieved a grade 4/C or higher in English and Maths, you will work alongside your course to complete this

Where can I progress to?
This course offers pathways to further study in Level 2 Hospitality and Culinary Arts courses. It will also provide you with skills which can be used in full-time employment or an apprenticeship.

This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.
