Senior Healthcare Support Workers help registered practitioners deliver healthcare services. You may work in a range of services eg hospital, community, health or day case unit, birth centre or midwifery led unit, someone's home, operating theatre, nursing or care home, assessment centre, hospice, school, prison, GP surgery, charity or voluntary organisation; working in partnership with individuals, families, carers and other service providers.
Knowledge, skills and behaviours covered include:
- Health and wellbeing
- Duty of care and candour, safeguarding, equality and diversity
- Person centred care, treatment and support
- Communication
- Personal, people and quality improvement
- Health, safety and security
- English and Maths Level 2
In addition a pathway choice will be agreed.
When recruiting, employers may select apprentices with prior experience as a support worker. It would be beneficial if you have achieved Level 2 English and or maths
Access to a computer is necessary
An Electronic portfolio will be used for On programme assessment to record completion of: • 15 standards as set out in the Care Certificate. • A learning journal • Level 3 diploma in healthcare support In addtiion there will be an End Point Assessment consisting of: • A multiple choice and short answer test • Observation of practice in the workplace • An apprenetice learning journal and interview
On completion of the apprenticeship, you may be able to progress to a higher level apprenticeship.
