This is a very practical course where you will learn the application of artificial nails. You will be using acrylic applications and will be given information on other systems available. You will also study Health & Safety and Manicure.

Course Details

You will be able to develop your skills in beauty therapy to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to perform your own salon services.

Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practices in a salon environment and how to promote client care and communications in beauty related sectors.

You will be practically assessed and be expected to provide your own models.

Entry Guidelines
  • Relevant level 1 qualification or minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade 3/D or above.
  • You will need the skills for fine work e.g. accurate use of a nail varnish brush.
  • You must be prepared to give and receive treatments to/from other students on your course.
  • An ability to communicate one to one e.g. tutor or client and in a group as part of discussions.
  • Satisfactory interview, assessment and reference.

Equipment Required

You will need to provide your own equipment/kit (approximate cost £120) & uniform (approximately £40).

Assessment Method

Assessments continue throughout the course both in practical and theory sessions. In addition there are VTCT online exams.

Additional Information

You will be expected to work towards a VTCT Health & Safety Diploma if you have not already achieved this qualification. This will have an additional cost of approximately £15.

  • Reading - Much of the course material is presented in workbooks. You need an ability to read and understand these books. Technical language will be taught on this course.
  • Writing - You need to produce written assignments and sit exams. You will complete a written assessment at the interview.
  • Whilst high levels of numeracy are not required, you will need to measure products and work within specific timings.
  • Where can I progress to?

    • Self-employed Nail Technician
    • Working in a beauty/hair salon or nail bar.
