The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Ladies Hairdressing is a Technical Certificate qualification aimed at learners who wish to pursue a career as an employed and/or self-employed junior hairdresser/hairstylist You will spend most of your week in our busy hairdressing salons working on clients using the Wella colour and products systems.

Course Details

During the course you will be expected to attend National shows and exhibitions where you can see demonstrations by some of the countries leading Hairdressers. As a world skills centre of excellence we also encourage our learners to enter competitions and particiapte in shows.

 

The course will include the following units which include:

- Advise and consult with clients
- Blow-dry and style hair
- Colour and lighten hair
- Cut ladies hair
- Health, safety and hygiene
- Set and dress hair
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Style hair with electrical equipment

Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology. Learners will acquire knowledge of all relevant testing together with health, safety and legislation requirements necessary for a junior hairdresser/hairstylist. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients, provide a range of basic cutting, colouring and lightening services. Alongside these are units to develop skills in setting, dressing, blow-drying and styling

hair with electrical equipment. In parallel, learners will develop their communication and customer service skills, their awareness of environmental sustainability and their commercial skills, all of which are valued highly by employers. Problem solving and research skills will also be developed. 

Entry Guidelines

Relevant Level 1 qualification or minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade 3/D or above.

Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and/or satisfactory reference.

Equipment Required

To learn effectively on your course you will need to use certain items of equipment to undertake particular activities as part of your studies. These will be yours to keep and you will be able to use them for practice at home and in your future career.

Assessment Method

You will assessed in a variety of ways to ensure competence in all areas of your course. There are awarding body set assessments to inlcude exams and a graded skills assessment. You will be given homework tasks to help you prepare for the assessments.

Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C (grade 4 or above) in English and maths
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

This profession and course requires you to be able to carry out physical work for long periods of time. Reasonable adjustments will be made to accommodate disabilities.

Where can I progress to?

Learners who achieve this qualification are eligible to become a State Registered Hairdresser (SRH) with The Hairdressing Council. As a junior hairdresser/hairstylist, learners could progress directly into employment in a variety of contexts, which include:

- commercial salons
- independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
- armed services
- HM prison service
- cruise liners
- hospitals/care homes

Learners may choose to develop their knowledge and skills further by completing a specialist qualification at Level 3
