The course will develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English.

Course Details

The course starts in September but you can join at a number of points throughout the year. You will have access to the College computer network and your own e-mail account. The staff are highly experienced and caring and the College offers an excellent tutorial system so there are always people willing and ready to give practical help and advice. You will sit an Ascentis Skills for Life (ESOL) exam at the end of the academic year. Regular written reports are available for those who require them for their employers or sponsors. The ESOL department organises a varied social programme which you can take part in. It includes visits to the theatre, museums and excursions to places of local and national interest.

Entry Guidelines

An initial interview and assessment will ensure you are put in a class at the right level. Your tutor will work with you to identify your particular learning and support needs. Your fee status will be assessed prior to your initial interview. Where applicable, a deposit is required prior to your English assessment.

Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C in English and maths
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

If you are aged 16-18:

This study programme will be FREE for most students who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, or students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.

If you are aged 19 or over:

Fee : £540.00

This course is FREE if you are aged 19+ and are unemployed/in receipt of eligible benefits, or in work earning less than £18,135 annual gross salary.
