The Engineering Manufacture — Metal Fabricator Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) standard is aimed at individuals who are employed within the field of Fabrication and Welding. Candidates will be required to successfully complete: • Detailed Portfolio of Evidence • Synoptic Assessment / Project • End Point Assessment Within the allocated timescale of the apprenticeship.

Course Details

This apprenticeship standard will enable you to study and develop a wide range of skills, knowledge and gain essential on-the-job experience in the field of Fabrication and Welding, which will help you on your chosen career pathway. You will study the following qualification as part of this apprenticeship: Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering In welding, there is a wide range of possible combinations of welding process, parent material and welding position. Even in a comprehensive apprenticeship programme it will only be possible for an apprentice to gain competence in a small number of these combinations. The apprenticeship programme is expected to have an overall duration of 42 months. Prior to undertaking the end-point assessment, apprentices will be required to undergo a sustained period of on- and/or off-the-job training that meets the apprenticeship standards recommendations. There will be a mandatory three-part holistic end-point assessment starting no earlier than three months before the planned end of programme. Also, this course will help you to improve your maths, English and ICT skills, plus develop personal and social skills. You will be given support and guidance throughout your learning journey and your progress will be reviewed with you regularly.

Entry Guidelines
Relevant Level 2 qualification at Pass or above or minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade A*-C (Grade 4 or above). Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and/or satisfactory reference. If English is not your first language, you may need an assessment before enrolling on this course. To discuss further, please contact the ESOL department on 0151 551 7144.
Equipment Required

Protective overalls and steel toe capped footwear, face fitted welding mask. Laptop, home internet access (use of college study zone available on request), lever arch file pens, pencils and paper etc.

Assessment Method

Students are assessed via completion of:

  • Detailed Portfolio of Evidence
  • Synoptic Assessment / Project
  • End Point Assessment
Additional Information

Apprentices need the maturity, independence and motivation to attend college regularly and on time, participate to the best of their ability and behave in a responsible manner. Your skills in Mathematics, English and ICT will be developed throughout the course.
