This Advanced Apprenticeship focuses on the technical aspects of engineering manufacture, to enable the potential apprentice to become a skilled machinist, tool-maker, metal forger, skilled sheet metal worker, skilled fitter, composite technician, pipe fitter and assembler. It allows employers to train both new and incumbent staff in a professional engineering environment, to a level that supports the needs of their business.
The Apprentice framework includes the following qualifications:
- Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering
- Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology
- Level 2 Functional Skill English
- Level 2 Functional Skill maths
- Level 2 Functional Skill ICT
- Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
- Using and interpreting engineering data and documentation
- Working efficiently and effectively in engineering
- Reinstating the work area on completion of activities
Job Roles can include Metal Working and Machine Operative, Quality Control, CNC Operator, Maintenance Operative, Process Operator. Apprentices must be in paid employment of at least 30 hours per week. Apprenticeships where the Apprentice is working and studying for less than 30 hours per week are by exception only. In any circumstances the Apprentice must not work for less than 16 hours per week. The Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacture framework is suitable for potential Apprentices who have five GCSEs grade C or above including Maths, English, and a Science. You will also have completed an Intermediate Apprenticeship at Level 2 in the relevant engineering/ manufacturing occupational discipline.
Apprenticeships are designed for individuals who are in paid employment within the sector and would like to achieve qualifications which recognise the skills they gain in the workplace.
- While significant numbers of Advanced Apprentices will seek internal progression to team leader or supervisory roles within their companies, some will want to progress to a Higher Apprenticeship in Engineering; others may decide to opt for a Foundation degree or HNC/HND.
- More generally, most ex-apprentices aspire to a combination of internal promotion while at the same time undertaking company sponsored qualifications as specified above.
