This course is intended for those who wish to progress into a construction career within a Design, Management or a Technical role (e.g. Quantity Surveyor, Site Engineer etc.). The course provides an introduction into the professional construction industry from a technical, environmental & design perspective.

This course is an engaging programme aimed at students who are looking for a challenging career within the Construction industry. Students who study on this course are looking to begin their careers within fields such as Architecture, Building Services, Building Surveying, Civil Engineering, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Planning, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Site Management, plus many others. What will you study?A range of subjects covering:

  • Health, Safety and Welfare
  • Sustainable Construction
  • Construction Mathematics
  • Science and Materials within Buildings
  • Building Technology & Regulations
  • Digital Construction & Design (CAD)
  • Management of Construction Projects
  • Entry Guidelines

    This is a Study Programme and priority will be given to those aged 16-18 years of age.

    Pass or above at Level 2 Diploma in a relevant qualification or minimum 4 GCSEs at Grade A*- C (9-4) including English, Maths & Science.

    Satisfactory interview/assessment, school report and/or reference.

    More mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement and you will be able to demonstrate your suitability at interview

    Equipment Required

    Drawing Equipment (including a scale rule), Calculator, Pens, Pencils, Paper, A4 Folder, Storage Device (pen drive or cloud storage account).

    Assessment Method

    The course is assessed through a blend of assignments, presentations, practical tasks and job knowledge tasks. Each subject is awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction and the combined marks produce the final overall grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction for the course as a whole.

    Additional Information

    The course requires manual dexterity and physical stamina. You will need to lift and handle tools and materials.

    Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

    • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
    • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
    • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C in English and maths (grade 4 or above)
    • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

    If you are aged 16-18:

    This study programme will be FREE for most students who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, or students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.

    If you are aged 19 or over:

    Fee : £4800.00

    If you are aged 19+, you may be able to apply for a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan (which is available for this course).

    Depending on your personal circumstances, this course could be FREE for you if you are aged 19-23 and you do not already have a level 3 qualification.

    The fee quoted is for the academic year 2019-20.
