This level 1 certificate construction programme is designed as an introduction to construction crafts. It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions.

Course Details

If you like working with your hands but are not quite sure which trade you would like to learn, this course allows you to try out various construction crafts. The course allows you to learn new skills in multi-skills workshops, especially designed to accommodate anything from brickwork through to plastering and painting and decorating. All our staff are skilled, friendly and will support you throughout your studies. You will build skills in the following:

  • Painting and Decorating, Plastering and brickwork
  • Plus you will develop your skills with English, Maths and Health and Safety

    Entry Guidelines

    This is a Study Programme for those aged 16-18 years of age.

    Relevant Entry level qualification or 3 GCSEs at Grade 2/E or above.

    Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and / or satisfactory reference.

    Equipment Required

    Students will be expected to provide overalls, steel toecap safety boots, pen, pencil and ruler.

    Assessment Method

    Assessment is completed by practical and written tasks.

    Students will be expected to supply their own safety boots, overalls, paper, files, folders and drawing equipment. Are you aged 16-18?
    Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

    • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
    • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
    • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade 9-4 (A*-C) in English and maths (or Grade 4 or above)
    • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

    Where can I progress to?
    Progression on to other trade skills courses. You may progress on to a full Level 1 or level 2 qualification in bricklaying, painting and decorating, plastering to further your learning and skills within a specialism.

    This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.
