The BTEC First Award that you will study gives an insight into the practical and theoretical work in the computing industry, leading to progression options into Level 3 Computing courses.

Course Details

This course is a practical, work-related course with theoretical study to support your learning. You will learn and be assessed by completing assignments and projects that are based on work situations, activities and demands. You will also learn about employment opportunities that are available.

Entry Guidelines

Relevant Level 1 qualification or minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade 3/D or above. Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and/or satisfactory reference. If English is not your first language, you may need an assessment before enrolling on this course. To discuss further, please contact the ESOL department on 0151 551 7144.

Equipment Required

Access to Wifi and a device for home study (or you can dedicate your non-lesson time to work in our library or study zone).

Assessment Method

Written assignments, exams and practical assessments.

Additional Information

You will be supported by staff who genuinely care about your success. We will provide support and encouragement in order for you to succeed. You will have a personal tutor who will offer guidance and support as necessary.

Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade 9-4 (A*-C) in english and maths (grade 4 and above)
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips.
Where can I progress to?

Successful completion of this course with high grades (and GCSE grade 4/C or Level 2 in both English and Maths) will enable progression onto the Foundation Diploma in Digital and Computing Technologies. If you are aged 19+ and live outside the Liverpool City Region, you are unemployed/in receipt of eligible benefits, or in work earning less than £17,004 annual gross salary, or you are aged 19-23 and have not already achieved a full level 2 qualification, this course is FREE.
