The aim of this qualification is to increase the learner's knowledge and awareness of children and young people's mental health. By completing the qualification, learners will develop knowledge of mental health in children and young people which would support progression onto further qualifications and into relevant employment in the health and social care or education sectors.

In this qualification, children and young people refers to an age range of 5 to 18 years old.

This is a knowledge-only qualification, therefore, work experience is not mandatory, however experience of working with children and young people would be valuable.

Course Details

5 Mandatory units exploring children and young people's mental health:

  • Understand children and young people's mental health in context
  • Understand factors which may affect children and young people's mental health
  • Understand children and young people's mental health concerns
  • Understand the impact of children and young people's mental health concerns
  • Understand how to support children and young people with mental health concerns
Entry Guidelines

Relevant Level 1 qualification or 3 GCSEs at Grade 3/D including English Language.

GCSE in maths & English grade D/3 or above, or level 1 Functional Skills

Experience of working with children and young people.

Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and reference from your last place of education or training.

Assessment Method

To achieve this qualification, learners are required to successfully complete all 5 mandatory units. All units will be individually internally assessed using a range of methods.
