This apprenticeship is designed for applicants who are in paid employment within the Children and Young Peoples Workforce, to achieve the theory and practical elements of the qualifications which recognise the skills they gain in the workplace.

Course Details

Qualifications gained:

  • Level 3 Diploma for the Children & Young People's Workforce
  • Functional Skill in Mathematics at Level 2
  • Functional Skill in English at Level 2
  • Functional Skill in ICT at Level 2
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS) mapped within the Level 3 Diploma
  • Paediatric First Aid - mapped within the L2 Certificate or undertaken separately

The combined competence and knowledge based element will include eleven mandatory units (27 credits), 5 EYMP pathway units (22 credits) they are:

  • Promote communication in health, social care or children's and young people's settings (3 credits)
  • Engage in personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings (3 credits)
  • Promote equality and inclusion in health, social care or children's and young people's settings (2 credits)
  • Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children's and young people's settings (1 credit)
  • Understand child and young person development (4 credits)
  • Promote child and young person development (3 credits)
  • Understand how to safeguard the well being of children and young people (3 credits)
  • Support children and young peoples health and safety (2 credits)
  • Develop positive relationships with children, young people and others in their care (1 credit)
  • Working together for the benefit of children and young people (2 credits)
  • Understand how to support positive outcomes for children and young people (3 credits)
Entry Guidelines

Apprentices must be in paid employment of at least 30 hours per week. Apprenticeships where the Apprentice is working and studying for less than 30 hours per week are by exception only. In any circumstances the Apprentice must not work for less than 16 hours per week.

COURSE DETAILS (CONTINUED) Early Learning and Childcare (EYMP) Pathway units

  • Context and principles for early years provision (4 credits)
  • Promote learning and development in the early years (5 credits)
  • Promote children's welfare and well being in the early years (6 credits)
  • Professional practice in early years settings (3 credits)
  • Support children's speech, language and communication (4 credits)

Plus a total of 16 credits (minimum) from optional units. Total 65credits (minimum) required for the qualification. Employment Rights and Responsibilities will be integrated into the programme. The competence based element will be achieved in the workplace through building a portfolio of evidence to include observations, professional discussions and witness testimonies. Functional Skills are assessed and achieved through examination for those who are not exempt. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This course will be offered by multiple start dates throughout the academic year. To achieve the qualification learners will need to achieve a minimum of 35 credits (13 mandatory units and approx 2 optional units). Candidates are expected to develop and demonstrate knowledge and practical competence to a National Standard at Level 3. All learners will need to achieve a minimum of 65 credits this is made up as follows: 11 Core mandatory units (credit value 27) a further 5 mandatory units (credit value: 22 - Early Learning and Childcare pathway) and optional units (credit value 16). The length of the programme is 12 - 24 months. Please note this is dependent on experience, capability, commitment and qualifications previously obtained. Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C in English and maths
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips
