With the growing Media sector in Liverpool City Region and Cheshire, this is an exciting time to be studying the T level programme in Media Broadcast and Production.

This programme is for individuals, who are aspiring Content Producers and want to influence the broadcast and media industry with your creativity. The 2-year programme will allow you to develop your employability skills by working with media companies within the region and shadowing Content Producers who will guide you on their own practices and knowledge. In addition, the course will teach you the media principles needed to target your audience and make an impact.

Course Details

With the growing Media sector in Liverpool City Region and Cheshire, this is an exciting time to be studying the T level programme in Media Broadcast and Production. This programme is for individuals who are aspring Content Producers and want to infleunce the broadcast and media industry with your creativity. The 2 year programme will allow you to develop your employability skills by working with Media companies within the region and shadwoing Content Producers who will guide you on their own practices and knowledge. In addition, the course will teach you the media principles needed to target your audience and make an impact with your creatvitiy.

Students will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including:

  • The creative economy
  • The individual in the creative industries
  • Cultural contexts and media language
  • Audiences
  • Legislation and regulation
  • Professionalism and ethics
  • Equality, diversity and inclusions
  • Research skills
  • Project methodology and administration

You will also be able to begin your professional development — showing that you are aware of recent and new developments in emerging technologies, technical innovation and AI.

Content Creation and Production:

Throughout the two years, you will learn the core skills, knowledge and behaviours required as workplace practices in the media industry, and have the option to specialise in content creation and production. Specialist components include:

  • Generate ideas for content development for different platforms
  • Plan the production of the required content for different platforms (including but not exclusive to moving image, audio and written word)
  • Create and deliver the required content for the chosen platforms and/or venues (including but not exclusive to moving image, audio and written word) co-ordinating with others where appropriate
  • Evaluate the extent to which the content and plan meet objectives taking on board feedback.

In addition, you will be placed on at least 45 days work placement with a media production company and complete an employer set project.

Entry Guidelines

This is a Study Programme for those aged 16-18 years of age.

Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 9-4/ A* - C, including English and Maths

Satisfactory interview, assessment, school report and/or satisfactory reference.

Assessment Method

Two written examinations, an employer-set project and synoptic assignments. Every student must also complete and pass their placement in order to achieve the qualification.

Students are required to complete and pass all components to achieve their qualification.

Additional Information

A key component of this course is an extended work experience placement, totalling 45 days over the two year programme. Wirral Met have excellent links with employers within the media, broadcast and production sector and will work with you to find the right placement for you.

Students who achieve this qualification can progress either on to university, a higher level apprenticeship, or enter into the following job roles within the media industry depending on the specialism you choose when completing the course:

  • Prodcution assistant
  • Director
  • Video editor
  • Producer
  • Media researcher

This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.
