The components of this qualification aim to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to specific creative activities, media genres, and individual technical skills. For example:

- Outside broadcast production
- Script writing for film and television fiction

- Theory and understanding Film or television studies.
Entry is open to students with relevant qualifications at level 3 including GCSE Maths and English grade C and above (4 and above on new GCSE system). Access to Higher Education Diploma in any subject with Pass, Merit profile. Students who do not satisfy the entry criteria may be eligible by interview and evidence of relevant industry experience. Mature learners may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience (paid or unpaid) and possibly also achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector. Good communication skills, excellent time management and organisation skills as well as a commitment to 100% attendance. Assessment will be through written and practical assignments, presentations and portfolios.
The Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC in Creative Media Production (QCF) is a qualification with a minimum of 120 credits of which 30 are mandatory core. The BTEC Level 4 HNC programme must contain a minimum of 65 credits at level 4.
