This is an exciting level 3 course, designed for post-16 learners who want to study media related degree courses in Higher Education. It is designed to give you a technical understanding of the digital games industry as well as equipping you with the skills to progress to apprenticeships and higher level qualifications such as a degree. You will work with professionals both inside and outside of the college during project work and will have the opportunity to acquire skills and understanding of games design through practical projects.
This qualification is equivalent in size to three A levels, 13 units of which 7 are mandatory and 4 are externally assessed.
Digital games is one of the fastest growing sectors of the entertainment industry, with a need for talented creatives to help build the latest games. During this level 3 course you will develop the skills to understand different artist and designer roles within the games industry. You will learn about idea generation, drawing for concept art and production, 3D modelling, animation, game design processes, visual storytelling, building and testing digital games and preparing yourself for work in the industry.
Priority will be given to candidates aged 16-18 years of age.
A Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject or 5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above (preferably including English Language and Maths).

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Games Design is delivered over a two year period and is aimed at post-16 learners who want to study media-related degree courses in Higher Education.
On the successful completion of The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Games Design students will achieve the equivalent of three A-Levels.
Applicants will need good organisational, communication and writing skills for the completion of assignment work.
Are you aged 16-18?
Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:
- A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
- Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
- English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A*-C in english and maths (grade 4 and above)
Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips.
If you are aged 16-18:
This study programme will be FREE for most students who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, or students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.
If you are aged 19 or over:
Fee : £6000.00
If you are aged 19+, you may be able to apply for a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan (which is available for this course).
Depending on your personal circumstances, this course could be FREE for you if you are aged 19-23 and you do not already have a level 3 qualification.
The fee quoted is for the academic year 2019-20.
