This course is designed to give you the skills you need to either progress in education or into employment. It will cover all aspects of animal care including grooming, animal health and habitat management.
This course has a balance of practical and theoretical studies and consists of a number of modules such as:
- Animal care
- Animal health
- Work experience
- Introduction to biology
- Breeds and grooming
- Industry and organisations
- Habitat management
- Practical handling and maintenance
- This is a study programme for students 16-18 years.
- 3 GCSEs at grades 3/D (Science, Maths and English) or a level 1 qualification with grade 3/D English and maths.
- A satisfactory interview, assessment and school report or reference.

To learn effectively on your course you will need to use certain items of equipment and undertake particular activities as part of your studies. To ensure you are enrolled on the right course of study, the first few weeks of the course will be an extended induction period. During this time your communication, numeracy and study skills, behaviour, time management and attendance will be assessed as well as your own preferred method of learning. If we believe the course does not meet your requirements, we will discuss suitable alternatives with you.

Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:
- A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
- Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
- English and maths if you don't already have GCSE grade A* - C (grade 4 or above), in English and maths
- Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips

This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.
