Wirral Met College’s brand new Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Centre opened at the Twelve Quays Campus in Birkenhead in June 2016.
The new STEM Centre will bring together a number of key technology disciplines embracing specialist, industry-standard equipment and enabling students to develop their skills for a wide range of careers.
The new centre will include every aspect of engineering design and development, a dedicated digital technology learning zone, new robotic equipment and enhanced Science laboratories. It will also house specialist facilities to support training in the logistics sector, with the development of practical skills in warehousing, fork-lift truck driving, supply chain management and warehouse management.
Wirral Met has been working closely with key industry and university partners at the forefront of STEM initiatives to ensure the STEM Centre is built to meet the needs a thriving economy. The college has been leading the design and delivery of education and training that supports the high profile area of STEM for many years, and its work has been recognised by awards such as the Cogent UK Life Science Skills Provider of the Year Award, sponsored by The Science Council.
Many students studying at the college have already progressed onto university, apprenticeships and a wide range of careers in the STEM sector, and this number is set to grow significantly with the opening of this dedicated STEM Centre.
