Students can study a range of different university level courses at Wirral Met including Art & Design, Computing & IT, Chemistry, Biology and Teacher Training, just to name a few. Wirral Met works in partnership with prestigious universities to offer high quality Degrees and higher level courses, including University of Chester, University of Liverpool and University of Central Lancashire (UCLan). Wirral Met was recently granted the esteemed Associate College status by the University of Chester, and ha therefore agreed to work in close partnership to develop and deliver education and training to provide learning pathways that lead from school education to degree and post graduate levels.
It’s not only young people leaving school who are looking forward to starting university level courses in September, many adults are looking at new careers in different sectors, or gaining qualifications to help them get a promotion at work. Wirral Met’s university level courses are open to all people of all ages and backgrounds and include studying towards Degrees, Foundation Degrees, Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) and Higher National Certificates (HNCs).
Students at Wirral Met regularly progress onto a variety of successful jobs in a wide range o
f industries. Stephen Sheehan for example, is a former BA (Hons) Fine Art student at the college. He then progressed onto MA Fine Art at Liverpool John Moore’s University and is now self-employed, showing and performing his work across the country and abroad.
Stephen was recently selected by the team at The Liverpool Biennial to be an associate artist for their programme, which aims to support artists, like Stephen, to develop their careers internationally.
Nicholas Weeks works as a Pharmaceutical Technician at Quay Pharma. He is currently studying a Higher National Diploma (HND) whilst completing an apprenticeship. He commented “The apprenticeship has allowed me to develop my understanding of not only how a professional laboratory functions but has also improved my knowledge of the Pharmaceutical Industry. It has provided me with the stepping stone to be able to pursue a career in the scientific industry”.
*From 1st September 2016, the student finance package will include a tuition fee loan and a maintenance loan only.
