Working in our industry standard training kitchens and fully licensed training restaurant, you will develop the skills and experience to start your career in this exciting profession. Our students progress into jobs as chefs, baristas and bar managers.

Career opportunities

These courses equip students with the skills and knowledge to progress onto occupations including:

Trainee chefs (Commis Chefs) earn from around £13,000 per year, but Head Chefs in top hotels and restaurants may earn around £30,000 per year. Waiting staff can earn around £12,000 to £16,000 per year and bar people can earn from between £11,000 and £17,000 depending on their experience; if you take on additional responsibilities and are managing staff, you may earn around £20,000. Students completing level 1 and 2 study programmes progress to the level 3 programme, or progress into jobs or apprenticeships within the hospitality and catering industry.

Glen Robinson studied a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Hospitality and Catering at Wirral Met. He started his career at ‘Home’, a café-bar at The Woodside Ferry Terminal. He is now employed as a full-time chef at Forever Greens eatery on the Wirral.
