Earlier this year the Royal Bank of Scotland announced that Mary Somerville (1780-1872) would appear on the new Scottish ten pound notes. Mary Somerville was a pioneer as a female scientist when women’s participation was discouraged. Her writings ultimately led to the discovery of the planet Neptune. So 144 years later congratulations Ms Somerville!

Flight Lieutenant, Ed Stephens recently visited Wirral Met College’s Oval Campus to present the Public Services department with the prestigious RAF platinum partnership award. The RAF works in partnership with seven hundred and fifty schools and colleges nationally and Wirral Met is one of only fifty schools and colleges who have platinum partnership with the RAF.

In these days of endless choice, sometimes a no-choice menu has plenty going for it, and this was certainly the case at the Marsh Cat, Parkgate, where James Ryan became the second young chef to display his many talents as part of the Wirral Young Chef of the Year competition 2016.

Orginally opened in 1907 as a cottage hospital and part of Lord Leverhulmes vision for the village of Port Sunlight, the Leverhulme Hotel exudes comfort and a welcoming ambience, and this warm welcome extends to the Riviera Restaurant at Leverhulme, the third venue for this year’s Wirral Young Chef of the Year competition.

If you enjoy locally sourced food at fair prices then the Claremont Farm Café really is the place to visit, and this just happened to be the venue for the first Wirral Young Chef 2016 event, with Dean Ferguson representing the farm in real style.
