A new term brings new starts for many people.
Whilst parents and young people alike are settling into their post-holiday ‘back to school’ routines, it may not all be plain sailing, as there will be some young people who are not settling into further study as expected. For those who have been working in summer jobs over recent months, a return to school may no longer be what they want or need, and an apprenticeship may be their best way forward. Others who expected to find a job and haven’t yet done so, may be feeling unsure about which way to go next.
Be reassured, there is no need for parents and young people to worry as there are still opportunities available, although you do need to take action quickly!
For those aged 16-18 who have to stay in education or training until the age of eighteen, there are alternative options available; this does not mean having to stay on in the school sixth form. Remember, young people can decide to do an apprenticeship, or get a job/be self-employed or volunteer for 20 hours or more per week AND receive part-time education/training leading to a qualification, or they can choose to study at college. If your current option isn’t working out, then don’t worry, as you are not alone and help is on hand to get you back on track towards your chosen career. Each year, Wirral Met welcomes lots of students who initially went back to school but then found out that this was not their best option.
Wirral Met offers impartial information, advice and guidance about the wide range of opportunities available, and their impartiality is evidenced by the Matrix quality standard. They will guide you through the wide range of options from study programmes to apprenticeships and traineeships. Whether your aim is to be self-employed, to start work in the coming year or you want to progress to university, the team can help you decide which route to take.
