For many people, the summer holiday period provides a time for reflection as we take time out of our busy schedules to recharge our batteries.

Now is the time to take stock on the past year and look forward to the future. Is it time to get a new job, go for a promotion or even change career – should we be taking advantage of the many opportunities out there?

It is not only young people who are planning their next steps with the new term on the horizon in September 2016. By gaining new skills and qualifications, adults can open doors to a new chapter in their lives, and feel rejuvenated in the process!

There is a wide range of part-time courses on offer at Wirral Met College which take place during the day and evening so that those with jobs and/or caring responsibilities can fit study in around their busy lives. From accounting to leadership and management qualifications, food safety, food preparation and cooking to beauty therapy, massage, health and safety, there’s bound to be a course to help you take the first step to an exciting, invigorating new career.

The good news is that from August 2016, Advanced Learner Loans will give students aged 19+ in further education, who are studying eligible courses at levels 3 to 6, access to financial support for tuition costs; the loans are administered by the Student Loans Company. Loan repayments apply once you have completed your course and earn over £21,000 (which is £404 a week or £1,750 a month). You pay 9% of the money you earn over £21,000, before tax. For example, if you earn £22,000 a year, your monthly repayment will be £7 a month; and if you earn £35,000 a year, it will be £105 per month.
If the loan is for an Access to Higher Education course and you subsequently go on to complete a higher education course, you won’t have to pay back your Advanced Learner Loan.

Now is the time to find out more about part-time courses and the Advanced Learner Loan; part-time prospectuses are available to download here. For those who need help choosing the right course, they should call a Student Adviser for impartial advice and guidance on 0151 551 7777.
